  • How not to be a shoemaker's barefoot child in a project about well-being in a cultural environment

Some of you may know that we have been a proud member of the international program for over 2 years now The Penguin Project, which focuses on improving working conditions and well-being in creative and cultural environments. As part of the development of this project, it took place in September 2023 in the Czech Republic, specifically in the beautiful and inspiring environment of the new residential center Cabin studio in Pečice near Mladá Boleslav, a residence focused on the integration of movement therapy principles. The project was initiated by Shawn Antoni Wright and Florian Landstädter from the cultural center Die Bäckerei in Innsbruck as early as 2021. Now the so-called Train The Trainer Program, during which a quartet of "trainers" shares its experience and know-how with 11 personalities from the cultural sphere from all over Europe to help them cultivate and advance the cultural environment in their countries. MOVE Ostrava adds the aspect of body and movement to the project. And it was the movement part that was addressed by the four creators - Jana Ryšlavá, Iveta Zedková, Shawn A. Wright and Florian Lansdtädter during this five-day residency. Because as the founder of The Penguin Project, Floriana Länstater, says: "In order for work in culture and other industries to be sustainable and fulfilling, you need to know yourself and your work environment and cultivate both sides." And it is the discovery of this knowledge and cultivation that is the content of the upcoming exercises that you will find in The Penguin Book . The Penguin Project residency through the eyes of Jana & Florian Why was the residency at Cabin studio important and what makes you most happy about The Penguin project? Jana: It was great to share movement experiences and immediately see how we are gaining a common vocabulary and foundation. Thanks to him, many more people will be able to feel good in their bodies and take care of themselves and their cultural environment! Florian: Our time in the Cabin Studio was very important for me because it enabled us to exclusively work on the project and thereby reach a working quality and depth that would never be possible in our normal working context. Equally important was having uninterrupted time as a project group to connect to each other and form deeper bonds. The Penguin Project is held thanks to support from the Erasmus+. It's funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or OeAD-GmbH. • Dance between Košice and Ostrava through the eyes of students

Slowly but surely we are counting down the days until the start of the 10th year MOVE Fest Ostrava and that brings us to a small a look back at our brother festival MOVE Fest Košice. It took place at the beginning of September, and thanks to the project "MOVE motivates students of movement fields using the know-how of successful professionals of the Moravian-Silesian Region", students of the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava also participated with their production DRIFT and students of the private conservatory in Košice. And how did the students enjoy the festival? We asked Markéta Schacherlová, a student at the Janáček Conservatory, and Viktória Lacová, who studies at a private conservatory in Košice. Was there something at the festival that you value, that you would like to experience again? Markéta: There are several of these things, but the one I value the most is the large participation of foreign artists and connecting people through art. Viktória: I liked the organizers' ideas like dancekaraoke, taste & share, shake it off and laughter yoga. I would like to participate in this festival again in the future. What were the workshops and performances like? Markéta: The workshops and performances I had the opportunity to attend and see were of a high standard and beneficial in several ways . At the same time, it was a very pleasant start to the new school year. Viktória: I was part of a short performance of the Private Conservatory in Košice, for which Katarína Sninská prepared me and my classmates. Of all the performances, I saw one dance performance, DRIFT, which was danced by students from the Janáček Conservatory, choreographed by Benito Šoltýs. Was there anything in a performance that you experienced for the first time? Did it move you in any way? Markéta: Yes, specifically in the choreography of the Italian performer Elena Burani. I was blown away by the ease and elegance with which a joke can be delivered and still leave a meaningful thought behind. She combined several skills (such as singing, acting, dancing) into one work and the result was a unique experience full of emotions and enthusiasm. A wonderful example of how far I can push my own boundaries in creation. Viktória: The show was pleasant to watch, I liked it a lot. Every observation of other dancers improves me as a dancer. Was there anything that you experienced in the workshops as well? Markéta: Here I also have to answer in the affirmative. We visited only two workshops, but both were great. And if there was something I experienced for the first time? At the workshop with Michael Fuscaldo, I learned how beautifully it is possible to work with emotions, how important they are for movement and how to use them. I think he offered us all an indescribable experience. Viktória: Timea Szalontay welcomed us with an exercise where we had to beat our chests and say our names out loud. It was funny, since most of the participants did not know each other. Michael Fuscaldo created a short choreography with us based on our imposition and creativity. It was interesting to see the process of such work. It brought me a lot. I am grateful for all the memories and beautiful moments. Did the festival bring you something new on a professional level? Markéta: Certainly yes. Every such experience is good for a dancer. Seeing several completely different performances and choreographies brings a lot of inspiration and it's never enough! Viktória: Move Fest Košice enriched me a lot from various points of view. I came with my classmates from the Private Conservatory in Košice and we were pleasantly surprised by the workshops led by Michael Fuscaldo and Tímea Szalontay. Each workshop is beneficial and useful for the dancer. These were focused on contemporary dance and improvisation, so I could learn something new from this sphere.

  • Thank you for the 2022/2023 season ❤︎

The 2022/2023 season was a crazy ride for MOVE Ostrava, full of unforgettable challenges, joys, excitement, creations and meetings. Now, at the end of it, we would like to share with you some wonderful experiences we had together and thank you for the moments we spent together, which always energize us! In the 2022/2023 season, MOVE Ostrava produced more than 30 performances in 23 different cities in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We are extremely pleased that, thanks to the generous support of our partners, we are able to spread dance, movement and performance art not only in our native Ostrava, but also in the regions and beyond. This is proven by our participation in 11 showcase festivals and cultural conferences in 7 countries. Here, Jana not only presented the activities of MOVE Ostrava, but also represented the Czech contemporary art and cultural scene and gathered inspiration for the next season's dramaturgy. For example, she participated in a conference within the Bread and Dance festival, TEH meeting in Leipzig or CINARS Biennale in Montreal. Of course, we didn't forget our "movers" or those of you who attend MOVE movement workshops. In the 2022/2023 season, there were 5 MOVEment Intensive workshop weekends, several one-off lessons and the highlight of active movement was a weekly MOVE YOU CAMP in cooperation with Slovak MOVE YOU. We believe that you enjoyed moving with MOVE Ostrava and we can already promise you another batch soon 😉 The creative highlight of the MOVE season 2022/2023 was the premiere of the author's performative lecture Bod obratu, which was created during residency stays in Komařice. As you can see, it was a busy season full of energy and unforgettable experiences. And we are extremely grateful for that. Grateful that we could spend this time together with you and in motion. Thank you to the audience, performers and creators, production, technicians, places we visited, collaborators and partners for your support ❤︎ We hope you enjoyed the 2022/2023 season as much as we did and look forward to more energizing meetings on the move soon!

  • MOVE Fest has been taking care of our bodies and souls for 10 years

Did you know that MOVE Fest Ostrava is celebrating its 10th birthday this year? Yes, that's right, this international festival of dance, movement and new circus took place here for the first time in 2013 under the name City in motion under the banner of the Cooltour cultural center! Since then, MOVE Fest has had several Czech premieres, three site-specific projects, dozens of locations, hundreds of performers, thousands of visitors and liters of drunk wine at the "Dvě deci o tanci" debates about dance in cooperation with Dance news. So what will the jubilee 10th year look like? The most important thing at the beginning - the 10th grade means a return to the original autumn term. So mark in your calendars October 4 - October 8, 2023! As in the past, we will also revive several everyday and unusual places in Ostrava for culture. So you can look forward to MOVE Fest once again taking over theater halls, non-traditional industrial and public spaces. The theme of the festival reflected in the program dramaturgy, the accompanying program and the festival visuals, this year we chose care - for your surroundings, your loved ones and yourself - and cultivation. We believe that these are values, which currently resonate not only in the cultural sphere, but also throughout society. Let yourself be embraced by movement at the 10th MOVE Fest and take care of your body and soul with us ❤︎ When two do the same thing, it is not the same thing The audience can convince themselves of this universal truth with the festival line of 4 versions of the performative project The Urge from Wednesday 4th to Saturday 7th October. Thanks to it, visitors will have the opportunity to watch this moving outdoor performance performed by 3 different dance groups from 3 different countries at 3 different locations over three days. On the fourth day, their unique combination will take place in one big joint performance The Urge Grows. Thanks to this line, the audience will get to know 4 places in Ostrava in a way they don't know them - interwoven with movement, dance, live music and art as a form of care for one's surroundings and its cultivation. On Wednesday, October 4, Czech performers will perform their piece at Alšovo náměstí in Poruba, on Thursday 5 October, the original version will be performed in Dolní Vítkovice by the original German cast, in which this project was created in 2021, on Friday 6 October Slovak dancers and The Urge will take over Jiráskovo náměstí and on Saturday 7 October all 3 groups will perform together in front of the Karolina Forum in a joint presentation The Urge Grows and show viewers the fascinating, contagious and inspiring power of collaboration and sharing! Care is also getting to know your roots and returning to them That is why during MOVE Fest (not only this year) we are very happy to bring back to Ostrava performers and creators, who started their professional and life journey from there a few years ago. This year it is a former soloist of the Moravian-Silesian National Theater, now a freelance dancer Markéta Pospíšilová and actor and musician Igor Orozovič in the premiere of a new project by choreographer Asier Edeso THE CHOICE o desire and desire to make the right decisions. Let's be together at the first step of this artistic group into the field of independent creation on Wednesday, October 4 at the Poklad House of Culture. Since we are convinced that our next generation also needs care and help on their way up, the idea of supporting the Ostrava roots is followed up on Thursday by a program of composed evenings with the eloquent name Fresh dance. It will give an opportunity to young promising creators of performative art. Nela Rusková - a graduate of the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, now a student at VŠMU, dancer and choreographer - will present her latest work here in person. Care is humor and perspective With a large supply of both, the Slovak group Neskóry zber will come to this year's MOVE Fest with their production Matter. For the first time in Ostrava, Daniel Raček and Anna Sedláčková will present the overall concept of this project, including the live input of choreographer Dáša Čiripová, who turns this performative duet into a performance that vibrates your diaphragm and nourishes your mind and body from the inside. Site-specific will! What kind of annual festival would it be without a traditional movement site-specific project, i.e. a performance that will be created directly during the festival in a custom-selected non-traditional space with a group of young dancers and creators? Yes, it will be this year too! Its creation will be undertaken by the Finnish director and aerialist Ilona Jäntti (this year at Letní Letná she premiered the performance Crossing, on which she collaborated with Eliška Brtnicka, which you could see at MOVE Fest 2021) and Šárka Bočková - a performer with Ostrava roots performing for example with Cirk La Putyka. During a week of intensive rehearsals with dancers selected through an open call, the two authors will use the genius loci of one of Ostrava's industrial icons and create a production together Burden without weight, which viewers will be able to watch only in one afternoon (Sunday, October 8) and in one evening (Friday, October 6) launch. Care as energy sharing What happens when five dancers representing the five natural elements meet on the dance stage? This will reveal you the Saturday performance Tetsu inspired by the Chinese way of working with energy. Come see for yourself that every bit of energy we expend as an individual is multiplied to incredible proportions in the group and community. Party is also care! Saturday's early evening will belong to the aforementioned spectacular combination of 3 dance groups in the performance of The Urge Grows in front of the Nová Karolina Forum, but that's not all. The ten-year festival anniversary deserves a proper celebration, and how else should a dance festival be celebrated than with movement! That's why we are preparing a real Roller Skate Party at the nearby Trojhalí Karolina on Saturday evening. /em>! There will be a DJ, a skating workshop and a super fun karaoke equivalent - danceoke. Time spent having fun together is one of the best forms of care. Don't you think? Care is understanding On the last day of the festival, the Burki&Com troupe will return to Ostrava after several years with their award-winning production Ostrov ! strong>. The powerful idea of realizing that we are "only" one part of the entire ecosystem and that our planet is also an island in the deep sea will surely resonate with you long after watching this beautiful act. The ten festival performances will be complemented by an accompanying program with movement workshops, a photo exhibition for the ten-year anniversary or popular debates Two children about dance led by female editors Dance news. In cooperation with them, the workshop Sustainability of dance media will also take place during MOVE Fest >, to which you can still log in here. All lovers of dance and culture, as well as those of you who have never been to it before, are cordially invited to the festival. Movement is a language that you don't have to understand, you just have to let it affect you. This is also why this year, for the first time, you can get festival tickets purchase via Pay What You Can and you can choose according to your options which amount you will pay for the show from the five offered options. We look forward to seeing you!

And the third scope will involve audience development and marketing, PR, and other strategies for increasing reader engagement. • The Urge Grows through the eyes of Slovak viewers

The expanded version of the project Ceren Oran & Moving Borders: The Urge Grows has only had its second performance so far, on Friday, April 28 at Hlinkova náměstí in Žilina, Slovakia. And why was it an extended version? Because two groups of performers stood side by side here for almost a year - a Czech group in the production of MOVE Ostrava and a Slovak group in Tanečno production. Both then performed their perfectly synchronized choreography together and this connection perfectly underlined the main message of The Urge - "the need to share". The Urge Grows in Žilina was a beautiful joint celebration of International Dance Day. Thanks to the Czech-Slovak connection, a very dynamic atmosphere reigned, random passers-by became interested spectators, and their support gave the performers the necessary dose of energy, adrenaline and a sense of belonging. Thank you Stanica Žilina-Zárečie for the wonderful opportunity and Marko Jančúch for the photos 💛 Stopping in the flow of city life, perceiving a live orchestra in connection with the movement of the dancers. An interweaving of events, expressed through movement, dance, and emotions. A wonderful experience and celebration of the International Dance Day. Thank you.” Adriana Hnitková The UGRE GROW, which was created during the pandemic, completely got me, moved me. The rawness of the street space revealed movement in detail, beautifully, minimalistic in maximum exposure. The energy of the dance and music had my full attention the entire time. Internally, I identified with the movement variations and some of the feelings I had during the isolation came back to me in my memories. THANK YOU 💗" Martina Zurovac Thank you for a wonderful experience, it was really wonderful and magical! I really liked that it was outside and I realized that I want more dancing in public and in my life, so I will start going to more dance performances. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience. • Spring MOVEment Intensive through the eyes of the participants

Anna Bangoura The intensive movement weekend with MOVE gave me the opportunity to devote myself again to activities that I enjoy and are part of my work, under the guidance of professionals whom I trust. Within Ostrava, it is a unique platform for developing the movement expression of performers, especially from the point of view of expanding my own creative boundaries: finding new ways of communication on stage and in my own work. The program allowed me to tailor-make lessons to best suit my body's needs. In addition, it is a great opportunity to meet local culture enthusiasts and for interdisciplinary networking. PHOTO: Kamil Hauptmann Tereza Cisovská The workshop with Andrej Štěpita was very enriching and at the same time fun for me! I found new possibilities for movement and interesting perspectives with which to look at movement. For example, using subtasks to break established patterns. Motivating movements to achieve greater dynamics. Confidence in ourselves, space and partners around us. And many others. I immediately used some methods and games for my students. Simply an experience that I will not soon forget. Thanks for bringing such opportunities for development.”

  • Nothing else Matter in Studio G through the eyes of performer Daniel Raček

Despite the fact that I have been going to Ostrava for many years and I feel that the audience in Ostrava appreciates our/my work, this time I was worried about the reaction. Why? In dance, in movement, I feel like a fish in water, but the text is something that I am still discovering and I am very attracted to it. But at the same time, for me, it is very fragile and vulnerable and not so easy to grasp. In the last project, Nothing else matters, there is no limit to the text. It brings uncertainty to my body and different muscle tone. It's a thrill, it's a risk. It may or may not succeed. Anka and I have known each other for many years and it is fun to work with her. She likes to try the untested and when she has her dose of good coffee she is unstoppable :) Hahaha, that's very inspiring. And as we both say, we like to steal from each other. Of course, each in his own way. And then fun is guaranteed. Martin is a great observer. He probably remembered everything we said and did and then just wanted us to repeat it. I don't even know how it got there, but we started talking about our own life experiences. Something that stuck in our memory and became important for some reason. nothing else matters. It was pleasant and very encouraging when the audience reacted to what was happening on stage immediately and did not save their reactions for later. And I have to say this, Studio G was made for us. Atypical but left a lot of privacy and security for us. Great team, great audience, great organizers. I can't wait to come to Ostrava again with something new. Thank you! Photo: Kamil Hauptmann

  • Spring workshops of Acropartnering through the eyes of Ladislava Maníčková

Acro partnering is such an amazing thing where acrobatics, acroyoga, contemporary dance and contact improvisation come together. Just brilliant concepts. In practice, for me personally, it was also another cultivated recognition of myself in the reflection of my partner,... a mirror of energy, emotions, moods, prejudices, dissatisfaction with myself, with my imperfection... But mainly about accepting myself, in the circle of wonderful people in new unique situations ♡ Sometimes the imaginary fear that we want to defeat so much, it is enough to accept, acknowledge and surrender to the present moment fully, concentrated.. Sometimes those ghosts in us spoil a big part of the progress, but it's still great that they even revealed themselves, made themselves known.. Well, it's hard to talk about it if you haven't experienced it, thank you that I was also able to taste something great and I'm very happy that it even got here, thank you to everyone who is responsible for it ♡ PHOTO from the acropartnering Workshop on March 25 at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava, Kamil Hauptmann
