Movement belongs in schools - together with CUKR, we’re helping make it happen

Movement is not an extracurricular activity. It is a language. And it belongs in schools. Do you agree? We do - which is why MOVE Ostrava has become part of the nationwide network CUKR – Centres for Artistic and Creative Education in the Regions..
CUKR connects schools, artists, and cultural organisations, supporting what we have long believed in - that art is not an addition to education, but a fully-fledged educational tool. That movement, dance, and working with the body develop creativity, empathy, collaboration, and the ability to perceive the world in context.
The project was created with the aim of systematically introducing creative learning into school practice and building bridges between formal education and the living cultural scene. In the field of dance and movement, it supports a discipline that holds enormous potential within schools, yet still has only limited space there.
For MOVE Ostrava, joining the activities of CUKR is therefore a natural continuation of our work. As part of our long-term support for creative education, we regularly present performances for schools, organise follow-up workshops for children and educational programmes for teachers, and initiate international collaborations and the sharing of methodologies. We believe that change does not begin with grand gestures, but with concrete experience. A child who experiences working with the body, partnership, trust, and creativity firsthand takes away far more than just the memory of a performance.
Mapping actors in dance and movement
As part of the CUKR project, we are currently mapping organisations and individuals who:
work in the field of dance and movement
already collaborate with schools, or would like to
are interested in expanding their activities towards education
If you are a teacher, lecturer, cultural organisation, or independent artist, please join the mapping process and fill in the short form. The more accurate our overview is, the stronger and more functional the network can become — and the greater the chance that dance and movement will no longer remain on the margins of the school system.

Submission deadline: 20 April 2026

The CUKR project is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
