R.OSA: 10 EXERCISES FOR NEW VIRTUOSITIES

SUNDAY
JUNE 22,
6:30 PM

CONTEMPORARY DANCE

DURATION: 45 MIN.

IN COLLABORATION WITH TANEC PRAHA

A revolution of the body. A burst of joy. Explosive energy. A mockery of stereotypes.

R.OSA is a one-woman show by actress and performer Claudia A. Marsicano, created in collaboration with acclaimed choreographer Silvia Gribaudi. Together, they dismantle our ideas of what is beautiful, what is powerful, and what is acceptable. With irresistible charm, Marsicano draws us into a world where not only the imaginary fourth wall of theatre comes crashing down – but also the myths of beauty, elegance, and bodily norms.

R.OSA is a one-woman show by actress and performer Claudia A. Marsicano, created in collaboration with acclaimed choreographer Silvia Gribaudi. Together, they challenge our ideas of what is beautiful, what is powerful, and what is allowed. With infectious charm, Marsicano invites us into a world where not only the “fourth wall” is broken, but also the myths of beauty, elegance, and body norms.

R.OSA presents ten “exercises of new virtuosity” – a series of staged situations in which the performer (and the audience along with her) playfully confronts expectations: Can a woman with a prominent body shape be a fitness instructor? What is beauty? And who gets to be seen on stage?

Gribaudi and Marsicano draw visual inspiration from Fernando Botero, the pop culture of the 1980s, and the everyday experiences of women constantly pressured to “fit in.” The result is a liberating experience, full of humor, irony, sweat, and the sheer joy of movement.

The audience becomes an integral part of the action – whether actively or simply by sharing presence. R.OSA invites us to push past the limits of what’s expected and turn our so-called flaws into our greatest assets.

This is no traditional dance piece. It’s a physical revolution with a soul – where we laugh, breathe, and take risks. Because Rosa dares – and so do we.

Silvia Gribaudi is an Italian choreographer whose work focuses on the social impact of physical performance and the body sui generis, placing humor and the relationship between performer and audience at the heart of her choreographic language. She received the Premio Giovane Danza D’Autore for A CORPO LIBERO (2009), was a finalist for the UBU Prize for Best Dance Performance and the Premio Rete Critica with R.OSA (2017), won the CollaborAction#4 Award (2018–2019), and was once again a finalist for Premio Rete Critica in 2019. In the same year, she received the DANZA&DANZA Award for Best Italian Production with GRACES, and in 2021, the Premio Hystrio Corpo a Corpo.

In June 2023, her piece GRAND JETÉ premiered at the TANEC PRAHA festival as part of the Big Pulse Dance Alliance project. Czech audiences had previously experienced her work on tour, including the acclaimed Graces. She is currently an associate artist at Le Gymnase CDCN (Roubaix, France) for 2024–2026 and at Teatro Stabile di Torino – Teatro Nazionale (Italy) for 2025–2027. Her performances have been presented at numerous national and international festivals and are the result of a creative process rooted in dialogue and poetic encounters with other artists, ensembles, and communities.
