SOUNDS OF DIVERSITY
MUSIC, MOVEMENT AND LIGHT IN DIALOGUE ACROSS CENTRAL EURPOPE
An international project connecting contemporary music, improvised movement and light design. Four Visegrad countries, four newly commissioned compositions and one shared space for encounter, reflection and experience. Sounds of Diversity creates a unique multidisciplinary experience where sound becomes movement and movement transforms into light.
Sounds of Diversity is an international cultural project bringing together artists from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary. It was created from a desire to discover new forms of collaboration between neighbouring countries while opening contemporary classical music to wider audiences.
Each edition presents world premieres of new compositions commissioned specifically for the project. Created by composers from all four partner countries, these works are subsequently performed as part of a concert series across Central Europe. Music is joined by two equal artistic partners - dance based on the principles of instant composition and light design - transforming each concert into a rich, immersive performative experience.

Sounds of Diversity is more than a concert project. It is a platform for international dialogue, artistic exchange and the exploration of themes that resonate across cultures and borders. Each edition is built around a shared topic that inspires both the newly commissioned compositions and the overall artistic concept.
The project has been presented in Ostrava, Katowice, Žilina and Budapest, bringing together professional musicians, composers, performers and creative professionals from across the Visegrad region.
ROLE OF MOVE OSTRAVA
MOVE Ostrava has been a partner of the project since 2025, providing its movement and choreographic dimension.
Under the artistic direction of Jana Ryšlavá, the movement concept is based on instant composition and improvisation. Movement is not used as an illustration of music but as an equal artistic partner. Each performance is unique, responding to the specific venue, atmosphere and energy of the musicians in the moment.
Alongside Jana Ryšlavá, the project features performers Lucia Bielik (SK) and Radoslav Piovarči (SK). Together, they create a living performative layer that connects sound, body and space into a single artistic experience.
For MOVE Ostrava, Sounds of Diversity represents a unique opportunity to develop international collaboration while introducing contemporary dance to audiences who might not otherwise encounter it within a traditional theatre setting.
2025 Edition: Wellbeing
The 2025 edition was built around the theme of wellbeing - the search for balance, harmony and moments of reflection in an increasingly fast-paced and overstimulated world.
Four new compositions were created specifically for this edition:
-
Petra Šuško (CZ) – Sixth Sense
-
Matej Sloboda (SK) – Consonanze Stravaganti e Lumi Danzanti
-
Przemysław Scheller (PL) – Grande Valse Brillante
-
Viktor Molnár (HU) – The Zone
These works were performed by a sixteen-member international ensemble under the direction of conductor Szymon Bywalec. The concept was Piotr Ceglarek's light design.
